Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) and European specification, AdBLUE are NOx reduction agents which when injected into the exhaust stream over a catalyst, converts the toxic nitric oxide exhaust (NOx) into nitrogen and water vapor, two harmless and natural components of the air.
DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is a safe, easy-to-handle nontoxic solution of 67.5% de-ionized water and 32.5% automotive grade urea. This Aqueous Urea Solution (AUS32) is for use in ALL SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) Emission Control Systems to reduce the the emission of harmful toxic diesel engine emissions, NOx.
EPA Federal mandate require all on-highway diesel engines since 2010 to meet NOx (nitric oxide) emission standards. In order to meet these lower standards, diesel engine manufacturers require the use of SCR ( Selective Catalytic Reduction) exhaust after-treatment systems that require DEF.
